When making treats for other people, I like to try baking things that I had never before baked. Despite owning this bundt pan for over six months, I still hadn’t had the opportunity to use it until I got my Dorie Greenspan, “From My Kitchen to Yours” cookbook. Chris hosted a going away party for Jonah and Lauren who will soon be moving, and out came the bundt pan, and Dorie’s Walnut Marbled Mocha Bundt Cake. I traded in the marbling for the gingko design, and traded the ground walnuts for, well, nothing.

I greased and floured the pan up, and forgot about it while I stirred together the dry ingredients, then proceeded to melt chocolate in my make shift double broiler (pan+simmering water+Pyrex bowl+chocolate, butter, coffee, ground coffee). When it was melted and well combined, I set it aside like so many other novelties and forgot about it.
In to my KitchenAid went butter and sugar (beat beat beat), egg 1 (beat beat beat), egg 2 (beat beat beat), egg 3 (beat beat beat), egg 4 (beat beat beat), and vanilla (beat). Then the dry ingredients made another cameo to be mixed with the wet ingredients; dry, then milk, then dry, then milk, then dry (s…l….o…w…l…y…beat beat beat beat beat).
After all of these beatings, the batter was ready to be bundted. All of the batter went into the bundt pan, and then topped off with the melted chocolate mixture I cast away earlier.

In the oven it went for 70 or so minutes. I let it cool for awhile before attempting to remove it from the pan. Despite my cautiousness in letting it cool, and extracting the cake from the pan, it still fell apart.

I feared not, and instead of worrying about the cosmetic imperfections of this horrid mess, I made hot chocolate fudge to cover it. Half a stick of butter, more bittersweet chocolate, sugar, corn syrup, salt and heavy cream and ten standing minutes later, I had my solution.

It seemed to make little difference though. The cake, and my first Dorie experience was a hit. By the time I babied out, this was all that was left:
